Montreal is often overlooked among the large Canadian cities as a potential venue for New Year's Eve celebrations, with the fireworks and festivities in Toronto's Nathan Phillips Square tending to take centre stage, but the residents of Quebec's second city are no slouches when it comes to throwing a party, and Montreal fizzes with parties, events and of course pyrotechnics as the countdown to 2013 reaches it's climax.
One of the most popular NYE events is the New Year's Grand Ball at the Old Port, where you can skate at the Bonsecours Basin outdoor skating rink, before Fireworks herald the new year at midnight alongside live traditional Québéc music. Up to 40,000 people attend the Old Port's Grand Bal du Nouvel An so be ready for a crowd.
