The Mississippi Blues Marathon is an annual marathon foot-race run in Jackson, Mississippi, USA. The inaugural race was held January 5, 2008. The race originated in 1976 with the running of the Mississippi Marathon. In 2007, new corporate sponsorship was obtained and the event was moved to Jackson, MS with a total purse of $30,000.
Come to the Mississippi Blues Marathon and Half-Marathon in January 2011, and you can expect to have a good time. Challenge yourself with the 26.2-mile marathon or the 13.1-mile half-marathon. You can even create a team of five runners and tackle the course as a relay team. Four of you take on five-mile legs with the final runner going the 6.2 miles to the end. Wheelchair competitors are welcome to take part in this challenging course!
With room for professional marathoners and first-time racers, the Mississippi Blues Marathon and Half-Marathon gives you an opportunity to run the Marathon, Half-Marathon, Relay or Kids' 1-Mile 'Marathon.'
It's not just about the running either. The event is also a huge street party filled with enthusiastic supporters encouraging their friends and family to complete the races. You can watch professional runners tackle the course in about 2 hours, 30 minutes and you can watch the insipiring determination of the racers who finish the course near its 7-hour time limit.
