The marathon is from Pontedera town, the headquarters of the Piaggio company and their worldwide known Vespa and Ape, to Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa, just under the leaning tower. The half marathon starts in Navacchio and follows the same course, finishing in Pisa.
Less known than the Florence Marathon, this is probably the best value marathon in Tuscany: the race will offer wine refreshments along the course where you can taste the typical Tuscan wine. Probably the success of the Medoc Marathon is suggesting a similar race in another region known worldwide for amazing wines. The number of entrants will be limited to 1500 for the marathon so it's not getting too crowded and you can really enjoy the hilly countryside. Probably not a race for a PB, but the leaning tower, the Tuscan Riviera (less than half an hour away), the amazing countryside of Tuscany and a quiet and slow Sunday run are a good mix for the perfect autumn break.
The 4th 'La Pisanina' half marathon in memory of the runner Andrea Mariotti will start in Cascina at the same time of the marathon start in Pontedera (ore 9,00). The start line is on the marathon course at the half marathon distance. Navacchio can be reached by car.
