Las Vegas Electric Daisy Carnival is an annual electronic dance music festival held on the last weekend of June in Southern California from 1997 to 2010, and in Las Vegas in 2011. In recent years, satellite events have been held in Dallas, Puerto Rico and Colorado. Attendees are commonly dressed in neon rave-like attires. For example: women may dress in brightly coloured bikinis. People will also be seen wearing beaded PLUR (peace, love, unity, respect) bracelets to give to one another during the time of the festival. In 2009, the festival was expanded to a two day event, which brought in 130,000 attendees. The Las Vegas event is confirmed for 3 days in 2011, making it the largest electronic dance festival outside Europe.
The first Electric Daisy Carnival was held in 1997 at the Shrine Expo Hall. The name usage was acquired by Insomniac's partner Philip Blaine. This refers to the name borrowed from Steve Kool-Aid's original creation from several years prior whom Philip knew through his colleague Gary (Steve's partner) at 1500 Records. In the past, there have been many unique venues in Southern California that have played host to the annual electronic music festival. These include the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Exposition Park in Los Angeles, National Orange Show Events Center in San Bernardino, Queen Mary Events Park in Long Beach, Lake Dolores Waterpark in Mark Lapro Barstow, Hansen Dam in Sylmar, and the International Agri-CenterTulare.
Las Vegas Motor Speedway, located in Clark County, Nevada, is a 1,200 acres (490 ha) complex of multiple tracks for automobile racing. The complex is owned by Speedway Motorsports, Inc. which is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina. On March 2011, Insomniac Electric Daisy Carnival anounced that their yearly venue will take place at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.The average yearly carnivals attendance is close to the sum of 100,000 people. The carnivals attendance for the event on Friday and Saturday is around 325,000 people each of the first two of three nights. Insomniac Events stated EDC 2011 Las Vegas will be at the number one spot for greatest raves in the world.
