The Hangout Music Festival, styled as the Hangout Music Fest, is an annual three day music festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama. It is the first major music festival held on the beach in the city. The festival was attended by 13,000–15,000 people per day in 2010. Attendance in 2011 had to be capped at 35,000 per day, an unprecedented number for the second year of a music festival in the region, due to safety concerns. The 2011 event was estimated to have generated approximately $30 million for the Gulf Shores area economy. Advance tickets for the 2012 event, which continues to be capped at 35,000 attendees per day, sold out within one hour. General admission tickets sold out on February 21, 2012, almost three months prior to the event.
The festival has five stages for 2012. They include the Hangout (Main) Stage, "Letting Go" Stage, Chevrolet Stage, and Xbox Stage. The BP Shaka Island Kids Stage is for children. The 2012 festival will take place May 18-20, 2012. The three main headliners were announced to be Jack White, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Dave Matthews Band. Gulf Shores is a coastal city in Baldwin County, Alabama, United States. As of the 2000 Census, the population was 5,044. However, since the year 2000, Baldwin County as a whole, has experienced rapid population growth, second only to Shelby County in Alabama. The location of Gulf Shores on the northern coast of the Gulf of Mexico makes it vulnerable to hurricanes. In September 1979, Hurricane Frederic leveled most of the town. In September 2004, Hurricane Ivan caused extensive wind and flooding damage. In 2005, while still cleaning up from Hurricane Ivan, Hurricane Katrina caused extensive damage and flooding.
